A Cleveland man was sentenced to nearly six years in prison for his role in a carjacking, authorities said.
Calvin Rembert, 23, was sentenced to 70 months in prison for his part in the crime, which occurred in the city’s Tremont neighborhood on July 25, 2015. He pleaded guilty to robbing a restaurant worker.
Rembert was one of several defendants convicted of crimes related to a series of carjackings in Cleveland. D’wan Dillard, Jr., 21, was sentenced last week to more than 16 years in federal prison for his role in two carjackings during the summer of 2015.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Kelly Galvin and Robert Patton, following an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Cleveland Division of Police.
Speaking about the case, David A. Sierleja, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio, said, ‘This defendant used robbed someone working hard to provide for himself. We will continue to use every statute available to lock up violent predators.’
Stephen D. Anthony, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Cleveland office, added, ‘These defendants terrorized victims and the city with their dangerous, gun-wielding car thefts. The Violent Crime Task Force and our local partners are committed to aggressively investigate predators who choose to engage in heinous acts of violence against our citizens.’
