Cambodian Illegal Alien Sentenced for Gun Possession

GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE: CHHAY LIM, a 47-year-old citizen of Cambodia, has been sentenced to ten months in federal prison for illegal firearm possession. Today’s ruling from U.S. District Judge Kurt D. Engelhardt also mandates one year of supervised release following his prison term. Lim will be subject to deportation upon completing his sentence.

According to court documents, Lim, an alien present in the United States without legal status, was caught with a TriStar 9mm semi-automatic pistol and a Marlin Model 6082 .22 caliber rifle on or about March 2, 2015. The illegal presence of firearms was discovered during a routine Homeland Security Investigation.

Acting U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans commended the diligence of the Homeland Security Investigations division of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in their investigation. Assistant United States Attorneys Spiro G. Latsis and Sean Toomey led the prosecution against Lim.

Lim’s sentence serves as a stark reminder of the consequences faced by those who disregard federal gun control laws, particularly aliens present in the country without legal authorization. The community is urged to remain vigilant and report any illegal activities involving firearms to local law enforcement agencies.

This case has garnered significant attention from both local residents and national news outlets. Lim’s conviction underscores the ongoing struggle against illegal immigration and the misuse of firearms within the United States.
