It was a grim day in Camden, N.J., as Michael Venditti, the kingpin of a local methamphetamine empire, was sentenced to 171 months behind bars for his role in a massive drug conspiracy.
Venditti, 39, of Camden, faced Senior U.S. District Judge Robert B. Kugler after pleading guilty to conspiring to distribute at least 50 grams of methamphetamine. The court heard that from March 2021 through September 2021, Venditti coordinated a brazen operation involving over 100 pounds of the illegal substance.
On Sept. 20, 2021, law enforcement swooped in on a Camden residence where Venditti and his cronies were caught red-handed. Authorities seized around eight pounds of meth, $29,000 in cash, drug paraphernalia, and more evidence of Venditti’s criminal enterprise.
In addition to the stiff prison term, Judge Kugler ordered Venditti to serve five years of supervised release after his release from prison and to forfeit $29,433. The sentence sent a clear message that trafficking drugs in New Jersey will not be tolerated.
Credit for the successful investigation goes to various law enforcement agencies, including the New Jersey State Police Strategic Investigations Unit South, postal inspectors from the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, FBI agents, and Homeland Security Investigations Newark agents. The operation was part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) initiative aimed at dismantling high-level criminal organizations.
