Birmingham Man Sentenced to 9 Years for Arson at Gulf Shores Condominium Complex

A federal judge in Mobile, Alabama sentenced Cameron Dashawn Ford, of Birmingham, to 108 months’ imprisonment on federal arson charges.

Ford, 27, was sentenced by United States District Judge Terry F. Moorer after pleading guilty to the crime. The federal arson charges stem from an incident in June of 2021, when Ford set a fire at the Lighthouse Condominium complex in Gulf Shores, Alabama.

According to court documents, the condominium complex was occupied by guests at the time of the fire, which was extremely dangerous to the community. Ford also live-streamed himself setting the fire on social media, as part of his guilty plea.

‘Thanks to the quick work of the Gulf Shores Fire Department, the damage from Ford’s crime was limited,’ said United States Attorney Sean P. Costello. ‘Working with our partners at ATF, we will continue to aggressively investigate and prosecute anyone who endangers our community in this manner.’

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Gulf Shores Fire Department investigated the case, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Kasee Heisterhagen prosecuting the case on behalf of the United States.
