Million-Dollar Embezzlement Scheme Lands Stamford Woman Behind Bars

Candace Rispoli, a 32-year-old Stamford resident, has been sentenced to 12 months and one day of imprisonment for embezzling over $1 million from her employer. The scheme, which spanned from January 2012 to June 2016, involved Rispoli using her company-issued American Express credit card to charge personal expenses, as well as transferring funds from the company’s account to her own PayPal and Venmo accounts.

Rispoli, who worked for Lodestone Management Consultants (later known as Infosys Consulting), had an American Express credit card to use for business expenses. However, she began charging her own personal expenses to the card in approximately 2013, totaling over $250,000. She also fraudulently transferred more than $800,000 in funds to her own accounts.

To conceal her scheme, Rispoli altered the company’s American Express account statements and created false billing summaries, which she emailed to the company’s accounting firm.

Judge Victor A. Bolden ordered Rispoli to pay $1,098,176 in restitution as part of her sentence. Rispoli has been detained since May 13, 2019, after her bond was revoked.

Rispoli pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud on June 24, 2018. Her then-boyfriend, Michael Miano, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud on September 1, 2017, and is awaiting sentencing.

The investigation into Rispoli’s scheme was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Heather Cherry and Jonathan Francis.
