New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell has become the first sitting mayor of the city to be indicted by a federal grand jury.
According to a press release from Google Indictment News, Cantrell was indicted on multiple counts of conspiracy, bribery, and honest services wire fraud on March 29, 2024 in the Eastern District of Louisiana.
The indictment alleges that Cantrell and her associates engaged in a scheme to solicit and accept bribes from contractors and vendors doing business with the city, in exchange for official acts and favors.
The case is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Criminal Investigation Division.
