Caricus Hendrix, Felon in Possession of Firearm, Tennessee 2017

Jackson, TN – A local man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm. On July 12, 2017, the Honorable J. Daniel Breen sentenced Caricus Hendrix, 30, to 180 months in federal prison for the crime.

According to information presented in court, on August 8, 2016, investigators with the Jackson Police Department observed a vehicle parked in the parking lot of Pandora’s Box blocking the flow of traffic. When investigators approached the vehicle, Hendrix admitted that he had an open container of alcohol and that a firearm was in the center console of the vehicle.

A search of Hendrix revealed ‘Molly’ or ethylone. The firearm, a Smith and Wesson 9mm pistol, was found to be stolen out of Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

Hendrix had three prior serious drug offense convictions, which led to him being sentenced as an Armed Career Offender. The sentence includes a total of 3 years supervised release to begin after his incarceration.

This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; Jackson Police Department and the U.S. Attorney’s Office, who have all worked jointly to address gun-related crimes through aggressive investigation and prosecution. Assistant U.S. Attorney Taylor Eskridge prosecuted this case on the government’s behalf.

Caricus Hendrix is currently serving his sentence. The case serves as a reminder of the consequences of possessing a firearm as a convicted felon.
