Defendant Sentenced for Heroin Distribution in West Virginia
MARTINSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA – A Berkeley County man has been sentenced for distributing heroin in the area, according to authorities.
Carl Cedric Booth, age 21, was sentenced to 12 months incarceration for distributing heroin in Berkeley County, West Virginia. The crime occurred in October 2016.
Booth pled guilty to one count of ‘Possession With the Intent to Distribute Heroin’ in December 2017. He admitted to distributing heroin in October 2016.
The investigation into Booth’s activities was led by the Eastern Panhandle Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force, a HIDTA-funded initiative, and the West Virginia State Police.
Special Assistant U.S. Attorney C. Lydia Lehman, also with the Berkeley County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, prosecuted the case on behalf of the government.
Chief U.S. District Judge Gina M. Groh presided over the sentencing hearing.
Booth’s sentence was handed down in response to his guilty plea. The investigation into Booth’s activities was extensive and involved multiple law enforcement agencies.
Booth’s case serves as a reminder of the importance of law enforcement’s efforts to combat the heroin epidemic in West Virginia.
