Former Postmaster Sentenced for False Claims

SCRANTON, Pennsylvania – In a shocking turn of events, Carl R. Bonser, age 56, of Lehighton, Pennsylvania, pleaded guilty to making false claims against the government in a federal court in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

According to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, Bonser, in his official capacity as Postmaster of the Orwigsburg Post Office, requested compensation for travel that never occurred from January 1, 2016 through October 31, 2016, causing a loss of $6,500.
