Carlos Colon, Armed Robbery, Connecticut 2014

A Bridgeport man has been sentenced to more than 7 years in prison for planning an armed robbery of a narcotics stash house.

Carlos Colon, 37, also known as ‘Camby,’ was sentenced to 90 months of imprisonment, followed by five years of supervised release, for his role in planning the robbery.

According to court documents and statements made in court, Colon and his brother, Carlos ‘Joel’ Colon, who were known narcotics and firearm traffickers in Bridgeport, recruited others to commit an armed robbery of what they believed to be a narcotics stash house containing 15 kilograms of cocaine.

On April 11, 2014, the group, which included Humberto Soto, Markus Mendez, Nelson Diaz, Trevor Pierce, and Hiram ‘Gringo’ Mojica, gathered at a location in Stamford where they believed they would be informed of the address of the narcotics stash house, and would then travel to the stash house to conduct the robbery.

However, the group was arrested at that time. A search of the vehicles revealed several firearms, ammunition, and other evidence of their plans.

Colon has been detained since April 11, 2014, and pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to interfere with commerce by robbery and one count of use of a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence.

His brother, Joel Colon, and the other defendants also pleaded guilty and have been sentenced to various prison terms.

This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Vanessa Richards.
