Carlos Morales, Meth Trafficking and Firearm Offenses, Texas 2025

Meth Trafficking Plagues El Paso Community

A disturbing trend of methamphetamine trafficking has been plaguing the city of El Paso, Texas, with a recent case shedding light on the severity of the issue.

On March 5, 2024, law enforcement officers conducted a traffic stop on Carlos Morales, 41, and his wife Rebekah Sue Morales, 55, during an FBI surveillance operation. The stop resulted in the discovery of two handguns in a backpack belonging to Carlos, a convicted felon. This revelation led to the execution of a search warrant on the couple’s home, yielding additional firearms, ammunition, and methamphetamine.

Further investigation revealed that both Carlos and Rebekah were involved in trafficking the methamphetamine. The couple’s arrest marked a significant blow to the methamphetamine trade in El Paso, with authorities seizing substantial quantities of the illicit substance.

Court documents revealed that Carlos Morales pleaded guilty on January 6, 2025, to one count of felon in possession of a firearm, while Rebekah Sue Morales pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute a controlled substance.

U.S. District Judge Leon Schydlower sentenced Carlos Morales to the statutory maximum of 15 years in federal prison, while Rebekah Sue Morales received a 10-year sentence. The court also ordered the forfeiture of the defendant’s residence, as well as multiple firearms used to facilitate the commission of their crimes.

The case was investigated by the FBI, with assistance from the U.S. Border Patrol, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, and the El Paso County Constables. Assistant U.S. Attorney Susanna Martinez prosecuted the case.

El Paso residents are breathing a sigh of relief as the sentencing of the Morales couple brings an end to a harrowing chapter in the city’s fight against methamphetamine trafficking.
