A Pittsburgh man has been charged with possessing heroin with the intent to distribute, according to federal authorities.
Carloto Neal, Jr., 20, was indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh on a charge of possession with the intent to distribute heroin, a Schedule I controlled substance, announced United States Attorney David J. Hickton.
The indictment, returned on June 9 and unsealed today, alleges that Neal possessed with the intent to distribute a quantity of heroin on or about March 17, 2015, in the Western District of Pennsylvania.
The law provides for a maximum total sentence of 20 years in prison, a fine of $5,000,000, or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offense and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
Assistant United States Attorney Brendan T. Conway is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Pennsylvania State Police, and members of the Federal Bureau of Investigation Safe Street Task Force, conducted the investigation leading to the indictment in this case.
An indictment is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
