SCRANTON – A Luzerne County woman has admitted to embezzling $4,600 from the U.S. Post Office in Dallas, Pennsylvania.
According to U.S. Attorney Bruce D. Brandler, Carol Sosik, age 55, of Shavertown, Luzerne County, pleaded guilty on April 17, 2017 to misappropriating postal funds from the U.S. Post Office in Dallas, Pennsylvania.
Sosik was employed at the Dallas Post Office as a distribution window clerk, with responsibility for sales of postage stamps.
The theft occurred between June 2014 and May 2016, during which time Sosik embezzled approximately $4,600 from the post office.
Sosik will appear for sentencing before Judge Robert D. Mariani in Scranton on a date which has not yet been scheduled.
The matter was investigated by the United States Postal Service, Office of Inspector General. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert J. O’Hara.
A sentence following a finding of guilt is imposed by the Judge after consideration of the applicable federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
The maximum penalty under federal law is 10 years of imprisonment, a term of supervised release following imprisonment, and a fine.
