Caroline D. Pham, Crypto Initiative, District of Columbia 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Commodity Futures Trading Commission Acting Chairman Caroline D. Pham announced today, August 21, 2025, a new initiative focused on the implementation of recommendations from the President’s Working Group on Digital Asset Markets report. The CFTC will begin a “crypto sprint” aimed at facilitating digital asset trading at the federal level.

Pham stated the initiative answers President Trump’s call for American leadership in the digital asset space and will focus on leveraged, margined, or financed retail trading on CFTC-registered exchanges. She highlighted the support received from stakeholders for the listed spot crypto trading initiative, coordinated with the SEC’s Project Crypto.

The CFTC is now actively soliciting feedback and suggestions from all interested parties regarding all recommendations outlined in the President’s Working Group report, titled “Strengthening American Leadership in Digital Financial Technology.” This marks a significant step toward operationalizing President Trump’s stated goal of achieving success in the crypto market.

Acting Chairman Pham emphasized the Trump Administration’s commitment to fostering innovation in the digital asset sector, referring to it as a “Golden Age.” The agency is inviting public comment, which can be submitted via the CFTC website until October 20, 2025. All submissions will be publicly available on CFTC.gov.

While this announcement doesn’t detail specific enforcement actions or penalties against individuals, it signals a proactive approach by the CFTC to regulate and encourage the growth of the crypto market within a defined regulatory framework.
