It’s grim in Connecticut as bank manager Carrie Caesar, 46, of New Britain, faces a federal indictment for alleged embezzlement. According to the United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, Deirdre M. Daly, a federal grand jury has returned an indictment charging Caesar with withdrawing funds from certificate of deposit (CD) accounts at Webster Bank between 2003 and 2016 without account holders’ consent.
Caesar is accused of using the embezzled funds for her own gain and taking measures to hide her criminal activities. The charge against Caesar, embezzlement by a bank officer or employee, carries a potential sentence of up to 30 years in prison.
The defendant appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Donna F. Martinez in Hartford on January 10, entering a plea of not guilty and being released on a $150,000 bond. It’s important to note that an indictment is merely an allegation; Caesar is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
This case falls under the category of financial crimes, with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) leading the investigation and Assistant U.S. Attorney John T. Pierpont, Jr., handling the prosecution.
The severity of Caesar’s alleged actions underscores the importance of integrity in the banking industry, and the justice system awaits further developments in this case.
