Cartel Member Busted

⏱ 2 min read

A high-ranking member of the notorious Sinaloa Cartel, Jose Guadalupe Favela, was involved in a massive methamphetamine and cocaine distribution operation in Monroe, Georgia. The 68-year-old Mexican national, residing in Riverdale, Georgia, was frustrated with the dwindling supply of ‘busloads’ of illegal drugs and was preparing for a visit from the son of Sinaloa’s leader when he was caught. On March 9, Favela was sentenced to 188 months in prison, followed by five years of supervised release, after pleading guilty to one count of distribution of methamphetamine on September 22, 2025.

The operation, led by the FBI and Homeland Security Investigations, dubbed Operation Take Back America, dismantled the cartel’s pipeline and brought Favela to justice. According to U.S. Attorney William R. ‘Will’ Keyes, Favela was a significant operative in the Sinaloa Cartel, responsible for facilitating the distribution of massive quantities of deadly drugs into Georgia.

The FBI and HSI’s tireless efforts were instrumental in dismantling the cartel’s operation, with Robert Gibbs, Supervisory Senior Resident Agent of FBI Georgia’s Macon office, stating that Favela’s actions fueled a dangerous pipeline, impacting communities across the state. The sentencing demonstrates the commitment of law enforcement agencies to protect Georgia from the dangers posed by cartels and their drug trafficking operations.

The Sinaloa Cartel’s influence in Georgia has been significantly disrupted, thanks to the relentless efforts of the FBI and HSI. As stated by Steven N. Schrank, Special Agent in Charge of Homeland Security Investigations, the sentencing sends a strong message to those involved in drug trafficking operations that they will face justice.
