Bank Robber Sentenced to 16 Years in Prison

Kansas City, MO – A Kansas City man has been sentenced to 16 years in federal prison for robbing a bank with a pellet gun.

Casey M. Widman, 60, was sentenced on Friday, March 7, 2014 in federal court for robbing Bank Midwest with a pellet gun.

Widman, a career offender, has approximately 92 criminal convictions, including his third conviction for bank robbery, 15th felony conviction, and seventh conviction for a crime of violence. He also has approximately 77 misdemeanor convictions.

The crime occurred on December 30, 2013 at Bank Midwest, located at 6249 Brookside, Kansas City, MO. At around 1:45 p.m., Widman entered the bank and approached one of the tellers, pulling out a black pistol (a pellet gun) and placing it on the counter in front of the teller. He demanded a withdrawal in ‘all fifties and hundreds.’ The teller placed the money on the counter, but Widman became agitated and demanded more money. The teller complied, and Widman took the cash and fled the bank.

A witness reported seeing a blue Ford Taurus parked near the bank for about 15 minutes before the robbery. The vehicle left the bank immediately after the crime occurred. An officer followed the vehicle and took Widman into custody when he stopped at a gas station.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Bruce E. Clark and investigated by the Kansas City Police Department and the FBI. Widman pleaded guilty to stealing $838 from Bank Midwest on October 7, 2014.
