CRIMINAL CHARGE: Timothy Rush, a 24-year-old resident of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for illegal possession of firearms.
THE CASE: Rush’s sentence was handed down after he pleaded guilty on July 30, 2014, to two counts: being an unlawful user of controlled substances (marijuana) in possession of a firearm, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
INCIDENTS: The first incident occurred on March 25, 2011, when officers found Rush walking with a juvenile in an alley with a loaded 9mm pistol. The second involved the possession of a sawed-off shotgun after a shooting on May 7, 2012. Rush was also arrested for dropping a loaded .380 caliber pistol during a pursuit on May 29, 2014.
JUDGMENT: United States District Court Chief Judge Linda R. Reade sentenced Rush to sixty months’ imprisonment, with a special assessment of $200 and a three-year supervised release term following his prison sentence. There is no parole in the federal system.
PROSECUTION AND INVESTIGATION: The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney C.J. Williams and investigated by the FBI Safe Streets Task Force and the Cedar Rapids Police Department.
