Cedar Rapids Robber Sentenced to Over 8 Years

CRIMES COMMITTED: On November 17, 2019, Rickey Bernard Wright, a 35-year-old from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, robbed a victim at gunpoint and later crashed his car while intoxicated with the firearm in possession.

INCIDENT DETAIL: The terrifying incident began when Wright robbed a victim at gunpoint behind a liquor store. The victim described Wright’s vehicle and clothing to police, leading to Wright being tracked down after a high-speed chase where he crashed into a historical site fence.

JUDICIAL OUTCOME: Sentenced on November 29, 2021, by Judge C.J. Williams in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Iowa, Wright received 104 months and 28 days’ imprisonment, along with a $200 restitution order to the victim.

LEGAL PROCESS: The case was part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a DOJ initiative aimed at reducing violent crime. Assistant United States Attorney Kyndra Lundquist and the Cedar Rapids Safe Streets Task Force prosecuted the case, which involved collaboration between the FBI and the local police department.
