Cedric E. Cundiff, Assaulting Federal Officer, New York 2026

Cedric E. Cundiff, 67, of Massachusetts, is facing federal charges for assaulting a federal officer with a knife in Syracuse, New York.

A U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force went to a residence in Syracuse on January 29, 2026, to execute an arrest warrant for Cundiff, who was wanted in Suffolk County, Massachusetts, on charges including robbery and assault with a dangerous weapon.

When task force officers attempted to open the door, Cundiff cut one of their hands with a knife, causing two lacerations and a fracture.

Cundiff appeared in federal court in Syracuse yesterday for an initial appearance on a charge of assaulting a federal officer with a knife.

The charge carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and a term of supervised release of up to 3 years.

Cundiff was detained pending further proceedings.

The FBI, U.S. Marshals Service, and New York State Police are investigating the case, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Matthew J. McCrobie is prosecuting the case.
