ALBANY, NEW YORK – Jesse Bedell, age 36, of Mayfield, New York, was sentenced to 33 months in prison for transmitting threats to injure another person. United States Attorney Carla B. Freedman and Matthew Scarpino, Special Agent in Charge of the Buffalo Field Office of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), made the announcement.
Bedell was convicted following a two-day jury trial in February 2024. The evidence established that Bedell applied to work at Medline Industries’ NAMIC Division in Glens Falls and received an employment offer conditioned upon passing a background investigation. Bedell, however, failed to disclose a prior criminal conviction. As a result, on January 9, 2020, Medline withdrew the employment offer. The following morning, Bedell phoned Medline employees in Neptune, New Jersey, and Northfield, Illinois, and threatened to burn down and blow up the Glens Falls plant. Bedell also threatened to kill the employee in Illinois.
United States District Judge Mae A. D’Agostino also imposed a 3-year term of supervised release, which will start when Bedell is released from prison. Bedell will have to serve his 33-month prison sentence before beginning his supervised release. This case is a stark reminder that actions have consequences.
The case was investigated by the Glens Falls Police Department and HSI, with assistance from the Warren County District Attorney’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Douglas Collyer prosecuted the case.
Bedell’s actions were not only a threat to the employees at Medline, but also to the safety of the community. His behavior was unacceptable and will not be tolerated. The Fulton County man must face the consequences of his actions.
In a statement, United States Attorney Carla B. Freedman said, “Transmitting threats is a serious crime that can have devastating consequences. We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that those who engage in this behavior are held accountable.”
Matt Scarpino, Special Agent in Charge of the Buffalo Field Office of HSI, added, “Bedell’s actions were a clear threat to public safety, and we are pleased that he will be serving time for his crimes. We remain committed to protecting our communities from threats like these.”
