A brazen kickback scheme went down at the US Census Bureau in Maryland, involving a top official and her relatives. Camille T. Jones, a 47-year-old program manager from Upper Marlboro, pleaded guilty to conspiring with a subcontractor to receive $790,000 in kickbacks.
According to court documents, Jones steered a lucrative employee assistance program contract to a prime contractor and a subcontracting company owned by her relative, Yolanda M. Jones. In exchange, Jones received kickbacks from YMJ Consulting and Yolanda Jones.
Jones also attempted to cover her tracks by drafting a fake service agreement between her mental health company and YMJ Consulting to make the kickbacks appear legitimate. Both Jones and her relative signed the agreement in 2024, but backdated it to 2020.
Jones further admitted to sharing confidential procurement information with another government contractor, who hired one of her relatives for a minimal-work job. The relative received $83,000, largely performing the work themselves.
