Adam Belardino, Fraudulent Schemes, New York 2023

WHITE PLAINS, NY – In a stunning reversal of fortune, Adam Belardino, the former CEO of the Maddox Group, was sentenced to 42 months in federal prison for his involvement in fraudulent schemes that targeted investors and employees alike. The sentence, handed down by U.S. District Judge Kenneth M. Karas, caps a series of events that have shattered the trust within the investment community.

Belardino’s misdeeds began in August 2019 when he convinced Victim-1 to liquidate her portfolio and transfer over $313,000 into his firm, promising investments that never materialized. Instead, he used the money to cover personal expenses, including payroll and office rent. When Victim-1 demanded her funds back in September 2021, Belardino embarked on a series of deceitful emails and texts, falsely assuring her of an impending wire transfer. His lies unraveled when checks he deposited into her account were returned due to insufficient funds.

The true extent of his greed was revealed in the fraudulent life insurance scheme against Victim-2. Belardino applied for multiple policies on her behalf, making false statements about her financial status and health to secure high commissions. He received over $84,997 in commissions from Insurance Company-2 alone, all under the guise of his legitimate role as an agent.

Belardino’s criminal behavior did not stop there. He applied for yet another life insurance policy with Insurance Company-3 on Victim-2’s behalf without her knowledge or consent. His lies and manipulations extended across multiple companies and victims, a pattern that finally caught up with him in the courtroom.

The United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Damian Williams, announced Belardino’s sentence, stating, “His actions not only defrauded his clients but also undermined the integrity of the financial industry. The sentence imposed today sends a clear message that such behavior will be met with severe consequences.”

Belardino now faces the reality of serving his sentence as he watches his career and personal life crumble around him. His sentence serves as a stark reminder of the devastating impact white-collar crime can have on individuals and the broader community.
