NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA – Cesar Alvarez-Espinal, a 31-year-old Honduran national, has been charged with using a fake social security number to obtain employment in Louisiana.
According to a bill of information filed on December 6, 2024, Alvarez-Espinal fraudulently used a social security number that was not assigned to him in the Eastern District of Louisiana on or about November 13, 2024.
Cesar Alvarez-Espinal faces a maximum term of imprisonment of five years, up to three years of supervised release, a fine of up to $250,000.00, and a mandatory special assessment fee of $100.00.
U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans reiterated that a bill of information is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
U.S. Attorney Evans also praised the work of Homeland Security Investigations in investigating this matter.
Assistant United States Attorney Jon Maestri of the General Crimes Unit is in charge of the prosecution.
Cesar Alvarez-Espinal is required to appear in court to face the charges against him. If convicted, he will face the maximum sentence of five years in prison, up to three years of supervised release, a fine of up to $250,000.00, and a mandatory special assessment fee of $100.00.
