Chad Amodio, Failure to Register as a Sex Offender, New Hampshire 2024

An Alton man has been convicted of failing to register as a sex offender, according to a federal indictment unsealed in U.S. District Court in Concord.

Chad Amodio, 52, of Alton, pleaded guilty to three counts of failure to register his online identifiers, U.S. Attorney Jane E. Young announced.

As a result of his prior federal conviction for traveling across state lines to engage in illicit sexual conduct, Amodio is required to register as a sex offender. This includes reporting any internet or online identifiers, such as screen names and user profiles on social media accounts.

In December 2023 and January 2024, authorities discovered that Amodio was using an unregistered screen name in an internet chat room for teenagers. Within the chat room, Amodio began communicating with an undercover law enforcement officer who was posing as a 13-year-old girl.

Amodio exchanged hundreds of sexual messages with the purported minor and requested photographs of the purported minor. He even suggested that they meet in person, offering to pick her up from school so they could engage in illegal sexual activity.

The charging statute provides for a sentence of up to 10 years in prison, at least 5 years of supervised release, and a fine of $250,000. Sentencing is set for February 24, 2025, before Chief United States District Court Judge Landya McCafferty.

The United States Marshals Service led the investigation, with valuable assistance from Homeland Security Investigations, the Haverhill Massachusetts Police Department, and the Alton New Hampshire Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Kasey Weiland and Matthew Hunter are prosecuting the case.
