A massive fentanyl trafficking operation in Wellesley has been dismantled, and one of its key players has been sentenced to prison. Charialdi Tejeda-Lara, a 25-year-old Wellesley man, was sentenced to 54 months in prison and five years of supervised release for his role in trafficking fentanyl, heroin, and cocaine.
The investigation into Tejeda-Lara’s operation began in May 2022, when law enforcement launched a probe into his distribution of fentanyl. During a search of his residence, officers seized approximately 5 kilograms of fentanyl, 327 grams of heroin, and 46 grams of cocaine.
Tejeda-Lara pleaded guilty in November 2022 to three counts of possession with the intent to distribute cocaine, 400 or more grams of fentanyl, and 100 or more grams of heroin. His guilty plea marked a significant blow to the operation, which was alleged to have been a major source of illicit substances in the area.
U.S. Attorney Rachael S. Rollins, Acting Special Agent in Charge of Homeland Security Investigations in New England Michael J. Krol, Colonel Massachusetts State Police John E. Mawn, and Wellesley Police Chief Jack Pilecki announced the sentencing. Assistant U.S. Attorney Brendan D. O’Shea of Rollins’ Worcester Branch Office prosecuted the case.
The case is part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) operation, which targets high-level criminal organizations that threaten the United States. OCDETF uses a prosecutor-led, intelligence-driven, multi-agency approach to identify, disrupt, and dismantle these organizations.
Tejeda-Lara’s sentencing serves as a reminder of the severe consequences of involvement in narcotics trafficking. The investigation and subsequent sentencing demonstrate the commitment of law enforcement agencies to keeping communities safe from the scourge of illicit substances.
With this case, authorities have sent a powerful message to those involved in narcotics trafficking: we will identify, disrupt, and dismantle your operations, and we will hold you accountable for your crimes.
