Five kilograms of death, hidden in plain sight. That’s what 25-year-old Shanese DeJesus brought from New York City to Massachusetts, sparking a federal investigation that led to her downfall.
In a brazen move, DeJesus drove from the New York City area to a hotel parking lot in Andover to deliver the fentanyl to a cooperating source in October 2021. She retrieved a shopping bag from her trunk and entered the source’s vehicle, where two UPS boxes containing five kilograms of the deadly substance were found.
DeJesus, a Brooklyn resident, had pleaded guilty to one count of distribution and possession with intent to distribute 400 grams or more of fentanyl in September 2022. Her sentence was handed down by U.S. District Court Chief Judge F. Dennis Saylor IV, who ordered her to serve 21 months in prison and three years of supervised release.
The investigation was a collaborative effort between the Drug Enforcement Administration’s New England Field Division, the Massachusetts State Police, and the New Hampshire State Police. Assistant U.S. Attorney John T. Mulcahy of the Narcotics & Money Laundering Unit prosecuted the case.
As the Grimy Times delves into the world of fentanyl trafficking, it’s clear that DeJesus’s actions put countless lives at risk. The devastating impact of her crimes will be felt for years to come, a stark reminder of the dangers of this deadly substance.
