A Charlotte man has been sentenced to 151 months in prison for transporting child pornography, according to a statement from U.S. Attorney R. Andrew Murray.
Charles Gary Humphrey, 42, of Charlotte, was found guilty of using a peer-to-peer network to view and trade child pornography online, and was subsequently caught transporting 55 files containing a mix of child pornography and child erotica to an undercover FBI agent on January 25, 2016.
Law enforcement executed a search warrant at Humphrey’s residence, seizing his computer. A forensic examination of the computer revealed that it contained more than 5,000 image images and videos of children engaging in sexually explicit conduct.
Court records show that some of the images and videos contained identified victims of 25 different series of child pornography.
The FBI’s Crimes Against Children Squad investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Cortney Randall of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Charlotte prosecuted the case.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
Humphrey will serve a lifetime of supervised release and must register as a sex offender after he is released from prison.
