A Roanoke, Virginia man has been taken into custody for allegedly attempting to possess with intent to distribute dimethyltryptamine (DMT) and distributing lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD), highly potent psychedelic drugs.
Charles Herman Aardema III, 28, of Ripplemead, Virginia, was arrested by police investigators for these charges, as alleged in a federal criminal complaint.
According to the complaint, in September 2021, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Miami international mail facility examined a parcel due to suspicious anomalies revealed by X-ray.
The parcel was addressed to Aardema’s Ripplemead home and shipped by a ‘Raul Wictor Silva Batista’ of Brazil.
CBP officers discovered the suspicious parcel and subsequently opened it, revealing a package containing the potent psychedelic drugs.
As a result, Aardema was arrested and charged with attempting to possess with intent to distribute DMT and distributing LSD.
Aardema’s arrest and subsequent charges mark another significant blow to the trafficking of powerful psychedelic drugs in the United States.
As the investigation continues, authorities remain vigilant in their efforts to combat the growing threat of psychedelic drug trafficking in the country.
The outcome of this case is currently pending, as Aardema awaits his next court appearance.
