A former Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) officer has been sentenced to 32 years in prison for repeatedly subjecting a young child to sexual abuse.
Charles Johnson, 30, of Washington, D.C., was convicted in July 2023 after a five-day trial in Superior Court in the District of Columbia.
Johnson was accused of sexually abusing a child who was nine- and 10-years-old at the time of the assaults, between November 2019 and September 2021.
According to the evidence presented at trial, Johnson, who resided in the same home as the victim, took advantage of occasions when he was left in a position of supervision and care over her.
The Honorable Michael O’Keefe sentenced Johnson to a total of 384 months across multiple counts, to be followed by a period of supervised release.
Upon his release, Johnson will be required to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life.
U.S. Attorney Matthew M. Graves and Chief Pamela Smith commended the work of those who investigated the case from the MPD, as well as those who worked on the case from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, including Assistant U.S. Attorneys Marco Crocetti and Kathleen Houck, and former Assistant U.S. Attorney Rachel Bohlen.
