Charles Ray Smith, Child Pornography, Arkansas 2016

A federal judge has handed down a lengthy prison sentence to Charles Ray Smith, a 31-year-old man from Winslow, Arkansas, who pleaded guilty to receiving child pornography.

According to court records, Smith was arrested on September 15, 2016, at his residence in Fayetteville, Arkansas, on charges of sexual abuse. During a post-Miranda interview, Smith stated that he had been downloading child pornography on his cell phone and transferring it to his laptop computer.

Smith subsequently consented to a search of his bedroom where officers located and seized two laptop computers. A subsequent forensic examination of the seized items revealed numerous images of child pornography.

Smith was named in a federal indictment in October of 2016 and pleaded guilty in December of the same year. At sentencing, the Government presented the Court with proof that Smith had a 2006 conviction for Sexual Assault 2nd Degree.

The Honorable Timothy L. Brooks presided over the sentencing hearing in the United States District Court in Fayetteville. The Government was represented by Assistant United States Attorney Dustin Roberts.

The case was investigated by the Siloam Springs Police Department and the Department of Homeland Security Investigations. Raymond R. Parmer, Jr., the Special Agent in Charge of the New Orleans field office with responsibility for Arkansas, Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee, praised the efforts of the investigators.

Smith will serve 210 months in federal prison followed by a lifetime of supervised release for his crime of Receipt of Child Pornography.
