FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS – Charles Ray Smith, a 31-year-old resident of Winslow, Arkansas, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term for his involvement in a child pornography case.
According to court records, Smith was arrested on September 15, 2016, at his residence on charges of sexual abuse. During a post-Miranda interview, he confessed to downloading child pornography on his cell phone and transferring it to his laptop computer.
A subsequent search of his bedroom revealed two laptop computers, which were seized and subsequently examined. The forensic examination revealed numerous images of child pornography, further incriminating Smith.
Smith was named in a federal indictment in October 2016 and pleaded guilty in December of the same year. At sentencing, the Government presented proof of Smith’s 2006 conviction for Sexual Assault 2nd Degree.
“Identifying and arresting sexual predators remains a top priority for HSI,” said Raymond R. Parmer, Jr. “HSI appreciates the teamwork of the Siloam Springs Police Department in ensuring this multiple offender was brought to justice.”
The case was investigated by the Siloam Springs Police Department and the Department of Homeland Security Investigations. Assistant United States Attorney Dustin Roberts prosecuted the case for the United States.
Smith was sentenced to 210 months in federal prison followed by a lifetime of supervised release. The Honorable Timothy L. Brooks presided over the sentencing hearing in the United States District Court in Fayetteville.
