Ryan Charles McCraw, Child Pornography Production, Colorado 2023

DENVER – Ryan Charles McCraw, 39, of Aurora, Colorado, will spend the next 18 years of his life behind bars after receiving a 216-month federal prison sentence for the systematic production of child pornography. U.S. District Court Judge Christine M. Arguello handed down the sentence today, followed by a 15-year term of supervised release, effectively locking up a predator who preyed on vulnerable children in the Denver metro area.

The case, brought by U.S. Attorney Jason Dunn and investigated by the FBI Denver Division, dates back to October 26, 2017, when McCraw was indicted by a federal grand jury. Court documents reveal a disturbing pattern of behavior: McCraw used online chat services to groom and target underage boys. Over months, he engaged in sexually explicit conversations, relentlessly soliciting inappropriate images from his victims. The manipulation didn’t stop there.

McCraw didn’t confine his abuse to the digital realm. He actively lured these boys, some too young to even drive, with the promise of meetings, often picking them up in his vehicle. Once at his residence, he subjected them to horrific sex acts, meticulously documenting the abuse with both video and still photography. This depraved conduct continued for over a year, impacting multiple victims whose lives are now irrevocably scarred. Adding to the horror, McCraw brazenly boasted online about having “trained” a dozen other boys, suggesting an even wider scope of his predatory behavior.

“The victims of child pornography production must be made to carry the harm they cause with them,” stated U.S. Attorney Dunn following the sentencing. “Mr. McCraw will now be spending a long time in federal prison to account for that harm. We particularly want to thank the investigators who helped bring this man to justice.” The investigation was a collaborative effort, involving the FBI, Longmont Police Department, and Aurora Police Department, with assistance from the 20th Judicial District.

FBI Denver Special Agent in Charge Dean Phillips echoed the sentiment, stating, “This sentence sends a strong message to those who sexually exploit our children that law enforcement will aggressively investigate their harmful and disturbing actions.” Phillips emphasized the FBI’s unwavering commitment to protecting children, declaring it a “primary objective” of the bureau. The lengthy sentence serves as a stark warning to others contemplating similar acts of depravity.

McCraw appeared at the sentencing hearing already in custody and was immediately remanded after the judge’s decision. Assistant U.S. Attorney Valeria Spencer skillfully prosecuted the case, ensuring that McCraw faced the full weight of the law for his monstrous crimes. While no sentence can fully repair the damage inflicted on his victims, this conviction and lengthy prison term represent a significant step towards justice and a deterrent to future predators.
