In a case that sent shockwaves through the community, a Bristol man has been sentenced to 210 months in prison for his heinous crimes against a minor.
David Lee Huggard, a 48-year-old long-haul interstate truck driver, had been traveling with a four-year-old minor child in December 2012. During their cross-country trip, Huggard subjected the child to illicit sexual contact. The child was later interviewed at the Bristol-Washington County Children’s Advocacy Center, where they disclosed the abuse.
Huggard was arrested on January 26, 2013, by agents with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and a detective with the Bristol Virginia Police Department. In a shocking admission, Huggard confessed to engaging in oral sex with the four-year-old child. The investigation was conducted by the Bristol Virginia Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
At his sentencing hearing, Huggard pleaded guilty to one count of traveling in interstate commerce with the intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct. U.S. District Court for the Western District of Virginia in Abingdon handed down the sentence, which reflects the severity of Huggard’s crimes.
