A 21-year-old man from Lame Deer, Montana has been sentenced to 84 months in prison for his role in a horrific rape case.
Jalen Jeremy Larance, an enrolled member of the Northern Cheyenne Tribe, pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual abuse in a federal court session in Billings on January 31, 2013.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Larance was drunk when he went to the victim’s house to check his Facebook account on her computer. He pushed his body against the victim, trying to hold her, and then followed her into the bathroom where he forced her to engage in sexual intercourse despite her repeated objections.
The victim did not report the rape immediately, but she told her school counselor, and there were also Facebook postings by Larance apologizing to the victim for the crime.
Larance was interviewed and provided a recorded statement admitting to the rape. As a result, he was sentenced to 84 months in prison, a $100 special assessment, and 10 years of supervised release.
Because there is no parole in the federal system, Larance will likely serve the full 84 months imposed by the court. However, he may be eligible for a sentence reduction for good behavior, but it will not exceed 15% of the overall sentence.
The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
