Crime Pays, but Not at Tax Time: Charles S. Moore, a resident of Pittsburg, California, has been charged with a 17-count tax fraud scheme.
Moore, 38, was arrested yesterday and made his initial appearance this morning before the Honorable Kandis A. Westmore, United States Magistrate Court Judge. He will face the music again on July 18, 2014, at 9:30 a.m., before the Honorable Jon S. Tigar, District Court Judge in Oakland.
According to the indictment filed on January 14, 2014, and unsealed today, Moore willfully prepared and presented to the IRS, 17 tax returns, Forms 1040 EZ, for various taxpayers for the tax years 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010. The tax returns were false and fraudulent with respect to the wages reported on each of the tax returns.
The maximum penalty for aiding and assisting in the preparation of false tax returns, in violation of Title 26, U.S.C § 7206(2) is three years in prison and a fine of $250,000.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Thomas Moore is prosecuting the case. The prosecution is the result of an investigation by the IRS, Criminal Investigation.

U.S. Attorney Melinda Haag and Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigation, Special Agent in Charge José M. Martinez announced the charges against Moore, a resident of Pittsburg.
