Charles Williams Sentenced in Bank Robbery Ring Takeover

U.S. District Court in Seattle has sentenced the last member of a notorious bank robbery crew to eight years in prison, marking the end of a string of violent takeovers across the nation. Charles A. Williams, 40, from Los Angeles, was among seven defendants who pleaded guilty and were sentenced for their roles in the spree.

Williams, along with six other accomplices, participated in a series of bank robberies styled after high-stakes takeovers. They descended on banks in Washington, Ohio, Michigan, and Colorado, intimidating employees and customers as they demanded cash. Their brazen actions culminated in the December 20, 2012, robbery of a Wells Fargo branch in Kirkland, WA.

Williams was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Richard A. Jones, who has been relentless in his pursuit of justice for victims of financial crimes. In her statement, U.S. Attorney Jenny A. Durkan emphasized that the crew’s belief they could evade capture was mistaken, commending the FBI’s South Sound Gang Task Force for their role in bringing them to justice.

Williams’ sentencing comes after Jeanine M. Daniels, 32, of Los Angeles, received five years in prison; and Kevin L. Brown, 38, from the same city, was handed a 16-year sentence. The crew’s activities were meticulously tracked by law enforcement agencies across multiple states, culminating in their arrests in December 2012.

Acting Special Agent in Charge W. Jay Abbott of the FBI Seattle field office highlighted the importance of this resolution, noting that it sends a clear message to other criminals: justice will be served. The South Sound Gang Task Force, which includes members from various law enforcement agencies, is committed to combating gang violence and ensuring public safety.

The investigation was a collaborative effort between the FBI, local police departments, state patrol, corrections department, and ATF. Assistant United States Attorneys Mike Dion and Kate Crisham prosecuted the case, ensuring that justice was served for the victims of these violent robberies.
