CHARLESTON FELON FACES 10 YEARS FOR ILLEGAL GUN POSSESSION

A Charleston man has pleaded guilty to a federal gun crime, putting him on track for up to 10 years in federal prison.

Fitzgerald Ingram, 24, admitted to possessing a firearm on July 29, 2015, despite being prohibited from doing so due to multiple felony convictions in North Carolina Circuit Court.

Those convictions include taking indecent liberties with a child, failure to register as a sex offender, and assault with a deadly weapon causing serious injury.

Ingram was apprehended by law enforcement after firing a rifle into a dumpster in the 6th Avenue area of Charleston.

The guilty plea was entered in the United States District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia, with Assistant United States Attorney Haley Bunn leading the prosecution.

The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Charleston Police Department.

Ingram will be sentenced on July 25, 2016, and faces up to 10 years in federal prison.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a nationwide effort to reduce gun crime in the United States.
