Jason Allen Rhule, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, West Virginia 2024

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Jason Allen Rhule, 45, of Charleston, faced justice today as he was sentenced to six years and five months in federal prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The grim tale began on July 24, 2024, when parole officers searched Rhule’s residence during a routine check. They discovered not one but two deadly firearms—a Taurus .40-caliber pistol and a Palmetto State Armory multi-caliber rifle—alongside high-capacity magazines, loaded.

Rhule, who was already on parole for prior felony convictions, was forbidden by federal law from owning any firearm. His transgressions included attempted manufacture of a controlled substance in Putnam County Circuit Court and attempted grand larceny in Kanawha County Circuit Court.

Acting United States Attorney Lisa G. Johnston led the charge against Rhule, commending the investigative efforts of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and West Virginia Parole Services.

Judge Thomas E. Johnston delivered the sentence, with Assistant United States Attorney Lesley C. Shamblin taking the lead in prosecution.

This case is a part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at curbing violent crime and gun violence across communities. The Department launched a strategic approach to PSN on May 26, 2021, emphasizing community trust, prevention efforts, focused enforcement, and outcome measurement.
