Harold Battle, Methamphetamine Distribution, West Virginia 2017

A Charleston man has been sentenced to up to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to a federal drug crime. Harold Battle, 49, admitted to distributing methamphetamine in the city.

Battle distributed 60 grams of methamphetamine to a person cooperating with law enforcement on Charleston’s East End on October 31, 2017. The person had ordered the methamphetamine from Battle, who received a payment of $1,000 in cash.

According to court documents, Battle was stopped by the Charleston Police Department after a traffic stop. He was arrested shortly after the drug deal. The West Virginia State Police Forensic Laboratory conducted the investigation.

United States Attorney Mike Stuart said that methamphetamine is ‘flooding our cities’ and that the Mexican cartels are the ultimate suppliers to local drug dealers. He emphasized the urgency of taking ‘the poison peddlers off our streets.’

Battle will be sentenced on February 10, 2020. He faces up to 20 years in prison. Senior United States District Judge John T. Copenhaver, Jr. presided over the hearing. Assistant United States Attorney Ryan A. Saunders handled the prosecution.

The Charleston Police Department and the West Virginia State Police Forensic Laboratory conducted the investigation. This case is a reminder of the ongoing struggle to combat drug trafficking in our communities.
