Acting U.S. Attorney James P. Kennedy, Jr. has announced that Joseph Kurowski, a 24-year-old resident of Cheektowaga, NY, has been sentenced to 30 months in federal prison for possession of child pornography. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Lawrence J. Vilardo.
Kurowski pleaded guilty to the charges after being caught communicating with a 17-year-old female through text messages that were sexually explicit in nature. He admitted knowledge that she was a minor when he received an explicit photograph from her on April 10, 2015.
The investigation leading to Kurowski’s conviction was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), with assistance from the Blasdell Police Department and the Cheektowaga Police Department. Adam S. Cohen, Special Agent-in-Charge of the FBI, directed the investigation, while Lieutenant Joseph Gramaglia and Chief David Zack oversaw their respective departments’ involvement.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Aaron J. Mango handled the case for the prosecution. The sentence reflects the severity of Kurowski’s crime and sends a strong message about the consequences of possessing child pornography in our community.
