NORFOLK, VA – Jamey Andre Bennett, 50, of Chesapeake, Virginia, is headed to federal prison for over a decade after a sting operation busted his drug and gun trafficking scheme. Bennett was sentenced today to 10 years and 10 months behind bars on charges of possession with intent to distribute cocaine, possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
The bust unfolded on October 9, 2024, when law enforcement intercepted a package bound for a fake name at Bennett’s Chesapeake residence. The package contained roughly one kilogram of cocaine. Instead of letting the drugs reach their intended recipient, investigators swapped the cocaine with a counterfeit substance and executed a controlled delivery. Bennett took the bait, retrieving and opening the parcel, giving investigators the green light to move in.
A search of Bennett’s home revealed a veritable arsenal of illegal goods. Along with the bogus cocaine, authorities found an additional kilogram of cocaine, a staggering 5,000 fentanyl pills disguised to resemble Percocet, and 1.605 grams of crack cocaine. The scene wasn’t just about drugs; two loaded firearms, a magazine packed with ten rounds of ammunition, two scales for weighing, packaging materials, and two cellphones were also seized.
U.S. Attorney Erik S. Siebert for the Eastern District of Virginia, alongside DEA Special Agent in Charge Christopher C. Goumenis, Virginia State Police Superintendent Col. Matthew D. Hanley, Chesapeake Police Chief Mark G. Solesky, and Norfolk Police Chief Mark Talbot, announced the sentencing. Chief U.S. District Judge Mark S. Davis handed down the sentence after a thorough examination of the evidence.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Luke Bresnahan led the prosecution, building a solid case against Bennett. This takedown is part of “Operation Take Back America,” a nationwide initiative aimed at dismantling cartels, transnational criminal organizations, and stemming the tide of illegal immigration.
