A Morgantown woman has admitted to a firearms charge, bringing the possibility of prison time and a hefty fine to her doorstep.
Cheyann Ciarra Hammonds, 25, of Morgantown, West Virginia, pleaded guilty to one count of ‘False Statement During Purchase of a Firearm’ in a federal courtroom in Clarksburg.
The crime occurred in Monongalia County in September 2016, when Hammonds falsified the paperwork to purchase a Glock pistol for someone else.
Under federal law, Hammonds now faces up to 10 years of incarceration and a fine of up to $250,000.
The exact sentence will be determined by the seriousness of the offense and any prior criminal history Hammonds may have.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew R. Cogar is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government, with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives providing the lead on the investigation.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael Aloi presided over the proceedings.
