Delmargo Dushawn Bruce, a 35-year-old Chicago man, has been sentenced to 2 years in federal prison for distributing controlled substances and possessing a firearm in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. On July 1, 2024, and July 19, 2024, Bruce sold approximately 5.93 grams of heroin and 9.76 grams of fentanyl, respectively. A search of his home on August 1, 2024, uncovered a loaded handgun, which Bruce was prohibited from possessing due to a prior domestic violence conviction.

Bruce pleaded guilty to the charges on February 5, 2026, and was sentenced by United States District Court Chief Judge C.J. Williams. In addition to his prison term, Bruce will serve a 3-year term of supervised release.

The case was part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at combating transnational criminal organizations and protecting communities from violent crime. The investigation was led by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Task Force, which included the Linn County Sheriff’s Office, the Cedar Rapids Police Department, and the Iowa Division of Narcotics.

Bruce is currently being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison. The prosecution was handled by Assistant United States Attorney Adam J. Vander Stoep.
