PITTSBURGH – The grim streets of Pittsburgh witnessed a pivotal moment as Donald Lyles, also known by his alias Chief, was handed a decade behind bars for his role in the heroin trade. United States Attorney David J. Hickton announced today that Lyles has been sentenced to 120 months imprisonment followed by eight years supervised release after being found guilty of violating federal narcotics laws.
The sentence was imposed by U.S. District Judge David S. Cercone, who had no choice but to deliver a stern message against drug trafficking in the city. According to court documents, Lyles was caught on or about April 25, 2013, with intent to distribute 100 grams or more of heroin – a Schedule I controlled substance.
Assistant United States Attorney Charles A. Eberle stood tall for the prosecution, ensuring justice was served on behalf of the government. The investigation leading up to Lyles’ conviction and sentencing was a collaborative effort, with commendations going out to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Pennsylvania State Police.
As word spreads about Lyles’ sentence, the community is reminded of the severe consequences faced by those who peddle drugs on city streets. The U.S. Attorney Hickton’s office has once again demonstrated its commitment to tackling the drug epidemic head-on.
This case serves as a stark reminder that the battle against illegal substances continues in full force. Lyles’ sentence sends a clear message: dealing heroin will not be tolerated in Pittsburgh, and those who engage in such activities will face the harshest consequences allowed by law.
