Chihuahua Woman Sentenced to 8 Years for 25kgs Meth and Fentanyl Bust
A Mexican national was sentenced to 8 years in prison for her role in a massive meth and fentanyl trafficking operation in West Texas.
According to court documents, Sandra Araceli Diaz Vazquez, 37, of Chihuahua, Mexico, was suspected of delivering narcotics within the U.S. On Dec. 5, 2023, law enforcement officers conducted a traffic stop along Interstate 20 near Colorado City after observing Diaz Vazquez commit two moving violations.
Diaz Vazquez consented to a vehicle search, which resulted in the discovery of approximately 20.2 kilograms of methamphetamine and 5.6 kilograms of fentanyl concealed within the fuel tank.
The massive haul of narcotics was seized by law enforcement, marking a significant blow to the regional meth and fentanyl trade.
U.S. Attorney Jaime Esparza of the Western District of Texas made the announcement, praising the efforts of the law enforcement agencies involved in the case.
HSI and the 32nd Judicial District Attorney’s Office investigated the case, with Assistant U.S. Attorneys Amy Greenbaum and Scott Greenbaum prosecuting the case.
‘The sentencing of Sandra Diaz Vazquez is a significant victory for our community,’ said Esparza in a statement. ‘The Western District of Texas will continue to work tirelessly to disrupt and dismantle the meth and fentanyl trafficking networks that plague our region.’
Diaz Vazquez will serve her 8-year sentence at a federal prison, marking the culmination of a lengthy investigation into her activities.
The case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing threat posed by meth and fentanyl traffickers in West Texas, and the importance of continued cooperation between law enforcement agencies in the region.
