Child Predator Sentenced to 60 Years Behind Bars

A 49-year-old Clinton man has been sentenced to 60 years in federal prison for producing child pornography, announced Acting U.S. Attorney Darren J. LaMarca and Acting Special Agent in Charge Paul Brown of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Mississippi.

Michael Allen Long, 49, of Clinton, was sentenced after previously pleading guilty to two counts of production of child pornography. Long’s heinous crimes have earned him a hefty prison sentence, one that will keep him behind bars for decades to come.

The case was investigated by the FBI Jackson’s Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force, the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office, and the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office. The team worked tirelessly to uncover the evidence needed to bring Long to justice.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Glenda R. Haynes, who has a reputation for being tough on sex offenders. Haynes was instrumental in securing the guilty plea and, ultimately, the lengthy prison sentence for Long.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. The program has been successful in identifying and rescuing victims, and bringing perpetrators like Long to justice.

Long’s sentence is a stark reminder that those who prey on children will be held accountable for their crimes. The community can rest a little easier knowing that this predator is off the streets and behind bars, where he belongs.
