James Glenn Dukes, Child Pornography Possession, Mississippi 2017

JACKSON, MS – James Glenn Dukes, 64, of Brandon, Mississippi, is headed to federal prison for a horrific crime. On March 21, 2017, U.S. District Judge Daniel P. Jordan III handed down a 150-month sentence to Dukes, followed by a lifetime of supervised release, for the possession of child pornography. The sentence comes after a disturbing investigation that revealed a digital trove of abuse.

The case began in February 2015 when federal agents executed a search warrant at Dukes’ Rankin County residence. Authorities seized multiple electronic devices – computers and hard drives – that would ultimately paint a sickening picture. A painstaking forensic examination uncovered a vast collection of images and videos depicting minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct. The evidence was damning, and on September 29, 2016, Dukes pled guilty to the charge.

Acting U.S. Attorney Harold Brittain, speaking after the sentencing, emphasized the importance of interagency cooperation. “As this case demonstrates, the coordination of state and federal law enforcement agencies is an essential component in our efforts to combat child exploitation and abuse,” Brittain stated. The investigation was a joint effort between the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office and the FBI Jackson Division’s Child Exploitation Task Force.

FBI Special Agent in Charge Christopher Freeze didn’t mince words. “Children must be protected from any type of exploitation, especially sexual exploitation,” Freeze said. “This sentencing indicates the partnership between law enforcement to find and prosecute these types of offenders to the fullest extent of the law.” He specifically credited the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office as crucial to the outcome.

Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood echoed that sentiment, promising continued vigilance. “Our law enforcement agencies are partnered with state and federal prosecutors in the court systems to ensure that those who take advantage of our children receive the longest sentences,” Hood declared. “The 150-month sentence handed down in this case should send a deterrent message to any perverts thinking about abusing our children.”

The Child Exploitation Task Force, comprised of FBI agents, Mississippi Attorney General’s Office personnel, and prosecutors from the U.S. Attorney’s Offices in Oxford and Jackson, initiated the investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Glenda Haynes prosecuted the case, bringing Dukes to justice for his vile crimes. The Grimy Times will continue to track federal sentencing across the country, exposing the darkness that lurks beneath the surface.
