A Brooke County man has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for failing to update his sex offender registry. Christopher J. Schragl, 46, of Follansbee, West Virginia, pleaded guilty in June 2022 to one count of “Failure to Register.”
According to the charges, Schragl failed to update his registration from May to December 2021 in the Northern District of West Virginia. This requirement is in place for individuals who are required to register as sex offenders.
The United States Marshals Service, West Virginia State Police, Texas Rangers, and the Nevada State Police investigated the case.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Clayton J. Reid is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government. U.S. District Judge John Preston Bailey presided over the case.
Schragl’s sentence of 18 months of incarceration is a direct result of his failure to comply with the requirements of the sex offender registry. This punishment serves as a reminder of the importance of adhering to these regulations.
