Defendant Sentenced to 27 Months for Possessing a Homemade Knife in Marion Prison
Marion, IL – A shocking incident of prison violence has been brought to light, as an inmate at the United States Penitentiary at Marion, Illinois, was sentenced to 27 months for possessing a homemade knife within the facility.
Christopher Leon Hainta, 45, had previously pled guilty to an indictment charging him with the offense, which occurred on July 22, 2016. This disturbing act of violence is a stark reminder of the dangers faced by correctional officers and inmates alike.
At the time he possessed the weapon, Hainta was serving a 46 month sentence, imposed in the Western District of Oklahoma, for being a felon in possession of a firearm. The 27 month sentence was imposed consecutively to that sentence.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation with the assistance of the Federal Bureau of Prisons and was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney James M. Cutchin.
As a result of his sentencing, Hainta was immediately returned to the custody of the Federal Bureau of Prisons to resume serving his sentences. In addition to the term of imprisonment, Hainta was ordered to pay the United States fines and special assessments totaling $400 and was placed on a two year term of supervised release to follow his incarceration.
This case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing efforts to maintain order and safety within our correctional facilities. The Grimy Times will continue to closely monitor this case and provide updates as more information becomes available.
The public is encouraged to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
